TB Tests

Clinical Evaluation

What is it

A nurse will ask about symptoms and a few other questions about the person’s health.

They will take the person’s weight, listen to their lungs, and feel their neck for swelling.

Why do a clinical evaluation?

  1. This helps figure out what TB tests might be needed.

  2. This is an opportunity for the person to talk to the nurse or doctor about TB questions.

Example conversation with someone who’s being asked for a clinical evaluation:

What/Why

  • The TB nurse would like to talk to you because you might have been somewhere where there was a higher chance of TB in the air.

  • This evaluation is the first thing the nurses do to figure out if you should do more tests for TB. They’ll ask you some questions about your health and some things in your life.

  • Some of the questions, like questions about alcohol, may feel a little personal but it’s just a normal part of the questions. No one here is judging so it’s best to be honest.

  • During the evaluation, the nurse will also weigh you, listen to your lungs, and feel your neck.
