What is it

This is something only done for children under 5 years old. When a child is around someone who was contagious with TB, Latent TB treatment may be started as a precaution, even before we can confirm if they have TB.

Reminder! This is a precaution because children under 5 have a higher chance of developing more serious TB disease.

Why take Window Period Treatment?

• The TB skin test might take up to 8 weeks after the TB germ first enters the body to be ‘positive’.

• It is called Window Period Treatment because of the ‘window’ of time it takes for the TB bacteria to ‘grow up’ enough to be detected by the TB tests.
