Taking Alcohol

Alcohol and TB Treatment

Some of the antibiotics in TB treatment can be hard on the liver. Drinking alcohol can be hard on the liver too. Together, TB treatment and drinking alcohol, can be like a one-two punch on your liver.

A person who is taking alcohol regularly may be asked to do extra blood tests to make sure their liver is healthy throughout treatment.

Impact on coming for pills

Sometimes drinking alcohol can also make it harder for people to come take their pills or pick up refills.

There are many reasons why this could happen:

  • Some people might not feel well after drinking and not want to go to the clinic.

  • Others might feel embarrassed to come get their pills if they have been drinking a lot.

  • For some people, drinking alcohol makes it easier to forget about getting your pills.
