Identifying Concerns & Supports (Red Book pg. 23)
Why incentives?
Incentives are one way to offer support to someone taking TB treatment or encourage someone to come in for screening. Each CLSC might have different kinds of incentives available. As the PHO, it’s good to get to know what incentives you can offer to people. Check out Community Resources for some ideas.
Some people may feel that incentives are unfair because people should want to be screened or treated for the good of their own health. It is important to remember that TB diagnosis and treatment can cost people many things, including time (ex: coming to get the pills) and money (ex: not being able to work when sick), and the length of treatment can completely disrupt people’s daily routines for many months. Giving incentives is about acknowledging the difficulties in TB care and making a small offering to help people in TB care.
