Introduce yourself as the PHO and that you’re there to support the person.

  • You know me as ____ and you might know I’m our community’s PHO.

  • As the PHO, I’m here to help you and support the health of our community.

Identify the situation.

  • The person did ______ test for TB.

  • Explain that we can’t confirm that the person is TB free.

  • Refer to Contact to Latent to Active TB as needed.

  • Do you remember when we asked you to come for an X-ray?

  • The X-ray came back okay but because TB can be a tricky disease to diagnose, the doctor would like you to keep doing some follow up tests.

  • We just want to be more sure if you have TB or not.

3.

Identify next steps.

  • Explain what is going to happen now.

  • Confirm contact information.

  • X-ray is back in town in two weeks, can we still call you at ____ to book your appointment?

  • If you’re feeling sick between now and then, you can come back to see us.

Mentally prepare to listen and speak with the person.

Introduce yourself as the PHO and that you’re there to support the person.

  • You know me as ____ and you might know I’m our community’s PHO.

  • As the PHO, I’m here to help you and support the health of our community.

2.

Identify the situation.

  • The person did ______ test for TB.

  • Explain that the test result showed no signs of TB.

  • So the nurse just read your skin test. The results of your skin test show no TB and because you don’t have any other TB symptoms, we don’t think you have TB.

3.

Identify next steps.

  • Give reminder about future TB investigations.

  • Give reminder if they have TB symptoms (refer to Active TB “Common Symptomsas needed), they can always come and see a TB nurse.

  • Just as a reminder, the clinic might call you again if you have been in contact with another person who has Active TB.

  • And if you’re feeling sick and think it might be TB, you can always come and see us again.
