How TB Spreads in the Community
Using this picture to talk with someone about how TB spreads in the community:
So, let’s say this is a guy who’s living with his girlfriend, his sister, and his dad. His sister’s boyfriend and son live with them as well. The house is often visited by your dad’s friend here.
Our guy here, maybe he starts to feel sick, maybe he doesn’t but because TB can be sneaky, he doesn’t know he has TB and he’s been too busy to come for his follow up appointments recently.
He develops Active TB, and because he is breathing out the TB germ, his girlfriend and dad breathe it in and get Latent TB.
The dad, who has a weaker immune system, develops Active TB more quickly and spreads TB to his daughter’s boyfriend and his grandson.
Our original guy’s girlfriend has now developed Active TB and so has his sister’s boyfriend. TB has spread to almost everyone in the household including the dad’s friend who visits their place often.
The thing is too, all these people aren’t just staying in the house, maybe our original guy works at the NV where he shares an office with someone. Maybe the girlfriend works at the school where she spends her whole day with her students.
So, you can see how quickly TB can spread if even just one person doesn’t receive the care they need.
